The media does not construct identity because television programmes and films like the inbetweeners, Harry Brown and Quadrophenia construct identities by stereotyping different social groups. These identities are then reflected and exaggerated on the news and in the media for example, after the London Riots the 'hoody' social group was increased and people became intimidated by them.
